A dog may stop eating because of stomach upset, stress, pain, dental issues, or an underlying illness. Sometimes the cause is minor and temporary, but if the loss of appetite continues, comes with vomiting, lethargy, or other unusual behavior, it may be time to contact a veterinarian.
Cats often hide when they are stressed, uncomfortable, in pain, or not feeling well. A sudden change in behavior can be a sign that something is bothering them physically or emotionally. If the behavior continues or your cat also stops eating or drinking, a vet visit may be a good idea.
Limping can happen because of a minor strain, paw irritation, nail injury, joint pain, or a more serious leg issue. Sometimes it improves with rest, but if the limp is severe, lasts more than a day or two, or your dog seems very uncomfortable, it should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Dogs may vomit because of something minor like eating too fast or a small stomach upset, but it can also be a sign of infection, toxins, or more serious illness. If vomiting is frequent, severe, or combined with lethargy or loss of appetite, it should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
A cat refusing food can be caused by stress, dental pain, illness, or digestive issues. Because cats can become ill quickly when they stop eating, ongoing appetite loss should be taken seriously and checked by a vet.
Dogs may shake due to anxiety, cold, pain, or illness. Occasional shaking may not be serious, but persistent or unusual shaking, especially with other symptoms, should be evaluated.
